Atticus Tan – Portrait #1 in Faces of Wyndham: Those Who Give
Portrait #1 – Atticus Tan
Faces of Wyndham: Those Who Give
At just sixteen years old, Atticus Tan has already become a quiet force for good in his community. Known across Point Cook as The Bicycle Boy, he’s the kind of young person who sees a need and simply starts helping without waiting to be asked.
It all began during the long, uncertain days of lockdown. While many teenagers were inside, Atticus was outside with a wrench, fixing bikes. First his own, then his neighbours’, then anyone who needed help. What started as a curiosity soon became a mission.
He began collecting abandoned or broken bikes, repairing them in his spare time, and giving them away to people who couldn’t afford replacements. No charge. No spotlight. Just service.
Two years later, his impact continues to grow. He now runs free community bike repair sessions. The bikes he restores often find their way into the hands of families doing it tough — especially those affected by theft. For a child, getting their bike back in working condition can mean joy, freedom, and a sense of possibility. For Atticus, it’s the smiles and small thank-yous that stay with him most.
What many don’t see is the family behind the scenes. His parents help manage bookings and make sure he still has time for school and sailing. They remind him to stay balanced and keep going even when things get tough.
Atticus is not just a mechanic. He’s a competitive sailor who once represented Australia, and he’s now training to become an electrician. His hands are always busy whether rewiring a bike, trimming a sail, or planning for the future.
In 2025, he was recognised as Wyndham’s Young Person of the Year a powerful acknowledgement of what he had already been giving quietly, month after month.
Born in Singapore, Atticus moved to Point Cook with his family in 2019. He speaks fondly of the area’s multicultural spirit, welcoming neighbours, and strong sense of belonging. His generosity only deepens that connection.
This portrait captures Atticus not as a future leader,
but as someone already making a difference.
About the Project
